It's a treat not to have to worry about every coin spent on this trip as on those in days of yore. Otherwise, we'd be bemoaning our lavish outflow on transportation that is not really merited. We have both train passes and subway passes that we have rarely used: we would have been better to pay for individual tickets as we went. Far better to walk and walk and walk. We are putting in between 10 and 15 km daily at the moment, and use our travel passes maybe only twice a day - once to get into a new neighbourhood and once to get home.
But the rare times we have been travelling while seated are efficient and fun. And filled with sound. Honestly, you could write film scores from the endless tunes your hear while riding in a carriage. As doors open and close there are bling-blings and diddly-dos, and when trains are arriving or departing there are more elaborate biddle-biddle-bap-bap-dickety-thrips. On the concourse one hears dit-dit-babbitery-dooraling-thringelee-pops. And then there are the whiraling-hiddery-hiddery-babble-boorang-oo-ee-oo-huhhhhh-pongs. Some tunes sounds like questions with trills ending in a rise, and some sound like answers with a definitive single syllabic ending. It's all quite conversational.
