So much thought and common sense has gone into communicating
in Japan. This photo is of a Kyoto bus stop sign showing how close the buses
are to turning up. There are 3 columns by each bus number. All black means that
the buses are further than 5 stops away. A yellow disc in one of the columns
means either that the bus is approaching, it is under 3 stops away or is 5
stops away. Invariably a vending machine is close by providing hot coffee. Both
the bus and vending machine systems give you such confidence that someone with
some smarts has thought about how human beings use services.
