Thank You Very Much, Mr. Roboto

Artificial Intelligence is being installed in various service modes throughout Japan, perhaps more than in most other countries. There are robot hotel check-in staff, robot manufacturing workers and robot retail assistants. 

We had an up close encounter with one of these latter characters, a cute little bot who came alive when someone came within a few feet, then it looked up to the correct eye level and talked engagingly about the food and retail options available, using its arms and waist emphatically. 

It's wearable screen indicated English or Japanese language options and then we were prompted to choose between wanting souvenir or food ideas. 

After we touched the correct button we heard a dissertation about one particular item, and then that was it. No indication of where said item could be found, nor information about other items. 

But it was so cute we could hardly be too annoyed. Perhaps it was trainee day.
